the enclosed memorandum states that the present is likely
to be his last year of service I could
stretch a
point in his favour & grant
him from the 1st January last the maximum
attainable under the S. of S.'s scheme i.e. $1800.
The subordinate table shows the differences between the
S. of S.'s & Mr Ormby's scheme for the other higher posts.
Un't D.P.W.
Mr Ormby's Scheme $4200 Executive Engineer $4,200 do Late Engineer do $ 3,000 do Office Assistant $ 3,600 Assistant Engineer $ 3,000 do do $2328 Draftsman $1200 S. of S's Scheme $4200-4800 by triennial increments of $300 $3000-3600 by triennial increments of $350. $2400 - 3000 by triennial increments of $200 $1800 - $2400 by triennial increments of $300 [no provision made]. $1800-2400 by triennial increments of $300.I would have given $2400
In my opinion our Scheme, under which Officers start on the 1st January to draw the Increments which their length of service entitles them to, is rather more liberal than Mr Ormby's, it has the advantage of being incremental, & has good round-number sort of salaries, which is more than Mr Ormby's does.
I think we should stick to our own scheme, subject to approving the addition of the Assistant Engineer not included in the scheme, & also to approving the provision of a Salary of $1200 a year for the Draftsman.
with reference to all the proposed increases the minor details etc? we must, I think approve.
